Lactose intolerance - what does it mean?

Lactose intolerance means you don't have enough of the enzyme lactase that digests lactose, the main sugar in milk. Calcium is one of the most important nutrients in dairy products. Cutting out dairy products increases the chance that you'll skimp on calcium. Don't let lactose intolerance keep you from consuming enough. Lactose intolerance is one type of food intolerance; it is not an allergy.
