Fall is a beautiful time of year – the cooler weather is a refreshing break from the humidity, the leaves on our trees are starting to change color, and it’s football season!
I love watching football games, and I anticipate each season as it rolls around.
This fall, I’m doubly excited because of a great opportunity that involves three of my favorites: football, dairy products and education. Fuel Up To Play 60 is an interactive program that teaches students how to eat healthy, get active, and become leaders in their school. “Fuel up” stands for the healthy foods that we need to energize our bodies. “Play 60” encourages students to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
The education part of the equation comes in the form of a contest that Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and Discover Dairy are co-sponsoring this fall. “Fuel Up To Play – the Dairy Way” encourages schools to get involved in the Fuel Up To Play 60 program and to incorporate the Discover Dairy Lessons Series into classroom curriculum. Through this contest, students will learn how to eat right, get active, and discover how important the dairy industry is to everyday life.
To enter the contest, which is open to grades four through eight, schools need to log on to the Discover Dairy Website, www.discoverdairy.com, and click on the “Fuel Up The Dairy Way” button on the lower right-hand corner of the home page. Schools can win some awesome prizes, from a HOPSports training system for the winner, to one of five “Dairy Farm Science Exploration” trips to one of two Nintendo Wii systems.
