Fall Is a Realistic Time of Year for Moms to Focus on Weight Loss:
3-A-Day™ of Dairy Helps Moms 'Fall' Back to Weight Loss with Interactive CD

ROSEMONT, Ill. (September 1, 2005) - January may be the traditional month to pledge to lose weight, but a national survey by 3-A-Day of Dairy shows moms believe fall is a realistic time to start a diet, aside from New Year's. According to the survey, moms say they have more time for themselves after the kids go back to school and their top priority is to get back to a regular routine.¹

This fall, 3-A-Day of Dairy can help moms use their "me" time to eat healthy and overcome the obstacles to shedding pounds no matter what the season. The program is offering an interactive CD to provide weight loss tips and resources, such as addressing moms' top two weight loss challenges: constant cravings (52 percent) and no time for exercise (34 percent).¹

"As a mom, I understand the challenge of eating right and exercising while juggling a hectic schedule of family and kid activities. And, as a sports nutritionist, I know having a healthy eating and exercise game plan is the key to a winning effort," says Leslie Bonci, R.D., M.PH., L.D.N. "Fall is the perfect time to kick off a 'losing' season and make weight loss part of your routine."

Bonci offers these ideas:
  • Incorporate nutrient-rich dairy foods like milk, cheese and yogurt that can help adults build stronger bones and achieve better results when it comes to trimming the waistline.
  • Make snacking a habit - it keeps you from getting too hungry and overeating. Aim for one 100 to 200 calorie snack in between meals such as: fat-free yogurt with 1/4 cup of whole grain cereal; two graham cracker squares with one tablespoon of peanut butter and a pear; or if you're on-the-go, grab a skim latte. If you're at a fast-food drive-thru, order a lowfat chocolate milk.
  • Step it up! Alternate the speed and intensity of any activity you're doing. If you're jogging, go for a few minutes and then sprint for a minute and repeat. Pledge to fit in at least 30 minutes of "me" time at least three days a week. You can even break up your workouts into three 10-minute sessions.

The "Tips and Tools for a Slimmer You" CD includes tools moms can use to get going: a 16-week food and exercise journal, expert advice, success stories, recipes, time-saving workouts and more. It's available for free in select major grocery stores with the purchase of milk, cheese and yogurt products.

New television and print ads will appear in September and October to remind people that enjoying 3-A-Day of Dairy - three servings of milk, cheese or yogurt every day - as part of a reduced-calorie diet can help adults achieve better results when it comes to trimming the waistline than just cutting calories alone.² Plus, the newly revised 2005 U.S. Dietary Guidelines and MyPyramid Plan recommend three servings a day of lowfat or fat-free milk, cheese and yogurt for overall better health.

Score Big with Family Meals
While most families (62 percent) eat together three to four times a week, more than one-third (33 percent) of moms say they usually eat what their kids eat, making it hard to stick to a weight loss plan.¹ Moms can make lighter versions of family-friendly meals and tackle their weight loss goals with delicious, satisfying recipes like Cheese-Stuffed Turkey Burgers or Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding with Vanilla Yogurt Pudding Sauce.
