Isabel Maples Selected as National Dairy Council Ambassador
PHILADELPHIA (January 30, 2007) – Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association is pleased to announce Isabel Maples, media spokesperson and registered dietitian, was recently named as a 2007-2008 National Dairy Council Ambassador.
National Dairy Council Ambassadors are expert nutrition resources media turn to for credible information on dairy nutrition and the dairy industry. Via national media, Maples will help translate nutrition research into everyday choices from the dairy case, promoting dairy’s wholesome image, particularly on the 3-A-Day™ of Dairy program.
“As a registered dietitian, I’m excited because this position offers me even more ways to educate people about dairy’s benefits, including its nutrition, affordability and great taste,” Maples said. “Plus, working with reporters helps me clear up the misinformation people sometimes hear about dairy.”
Maples is one of six ambassadors selected from state and regional dairy promotion organizations. All ambassadors are trained media spokespersons for their respective organizations. They possess strong communication skills and a solid knowledge of dairy/nutrition science and current related topics.
For the past 12 years, Maples has served as a Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association spokesperson in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Md., markets. She has completed more than 100 TV, radio and print interviews on such topics as child and adolescent nutrition, childhood obesity, the Food Guide Pyramid, food safety, school nutrition, bone health and women’s health. Prior to joining Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, she worked as a nutritionist and dietitian.
Maples earned a bachelor’s degree in public health nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s of education degree in sports nutrition and wellness from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She completed a dietetic internship at Penrose Hospitals in Colorado Springs, Colo., to become a registered dietitian.
