SUBWAY™ and Domino’s® Introduce Milk, Cheese Menu Items
PHILADELPHIA (April 25, 2007) – Dairy farmers, through their checkoff dollars, have partnered with two major restaurant chains to implement new menu items at more than 26,000 restaurants nationwide. In March, SUBWAY® premiered its new SUBWAY FRESH FIT™ menu, which offers lowfat white and reduced-fat chocolate milk in plastic, single-serve bottles. Meanwhile, for a limited time Domino’s Pizza® featured a new Cheesy Garlic Bread Pizza, which dairy checkoff helped to develop.
SUBWAY Restaurants became the latest quick-serve restaurant chain to offer milk in plastic, single-serve bottles. SUBWAY introduced the white milk offering as part of its new SUBWAY FRESH FIT menu in its more than 20,000 restaurants across the country, while the chocolate milk will be available a la carte. The bottled milk will be a permanent beverage option for the chain’s child and adult customer base.
Dairy producers, through their checkoff investment, will work with SUBWAY to promote the new milk offerings to the public throughout this summer and fall. This partnership brings the total number of restaurants offering milk in plastic bottles to more than 50,000 nationwide.
Developing innovative new products is key to driving growth of cheese sales in the pizza category. That’s why dairy producers partnered with Domino’s Pizza – the nation’s No. 2 pizza chain – to introduce the new Cheesy Garlic Bread Pizza. The pizza offers a garlic bread flavor with layers of cheese, including provolone and cheddar, on a buttery hand-tossed crust. The Cheesy Garlic Bread Pizza was available through March 18 at more than 6,000 Domino’s restaurants nationwide.
“The dairy checkoff works with food industry partners like Domino’s and SUBWAY to extend our checkoff promotions and bring additional resources and expertise to marketing efforts that increase sales of U.S.-produced cheese, milk and other dairy products,” said Gordon Hoover, chairman of Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association. Last year dairy checkoff partnered with Pizza Hut®, America’s No. 1 pizza chain, to develop its popular “Cheese Bites” pizza which was promoted in 6,600 restaurants across the nation.
