Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association Welcomes Three School Marketing Managers
PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2007) – Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association is pleased to welcome Kathy Kern, Olindo “Ollie” Marseglia and Carla Sakson to its school marketing team.
Kern, Marseglia and Sakson will serve as resources for teachers, school nurses and school district foodservice directors throughout Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association’s territory. Tasked with increasing dairy sales in schools through nutrition education and dairy promotion programming, they will identify opportunities for dairy marketing in schools, develop partnerships, and manage school accounts. They will assist schools in adopting the New Look of School Milk, a program that features ice-cold, flavored milk in resealable plastic bottles.
“Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association is fortunate to have Kathy, Ollie and Carla on its school marketing team,” said Janette Carpentier, vice president of school marketing. “Their experience, in both foodservice and sales, enhance our team’s efforts to promote the New Look of School Milk in the Mid-Atlantic region.”
A former foodservice director and school nutrition supervisor, Kathy Kern knows firsthand the importance of promoting dairy in the school cafeteria. Under Kern’s leadership, Bedford County, Va., schools switched from paperboard cartons to the New Look of School milk. As a result, milk consumption rose 20 percent.
Kern served as foodservice director at Nelson County Public Schools in Virginia and as a child nutrition supervisor at Vance and Durham County Public Schools in North Carolina. She grew up on a dairy farm in central Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition.
Kern is a resident of Columbus, N.J., and will work to implement the New Look of School Milk in southern New Jersey.
Ollie Marseglia is managing school accounts in Maryland and Delaware. He brings to Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association more than 25 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development and general management experience in foodservice. While serving as a child nutrition program specialist for the South Carolina Department of Education, student meal participation increased 45 percent.
Prior to joining Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, Marseglia was an account executive for Interior Systems Inc., an interior design firm that specializes in transforming commercial, retail and foodservice establishments. A trained chef, he owned and operated a restaurant and was foodservice director at the University of Alabama and the University of South Carolina.
Marseglia earned a bachelor’s degree in food service administration at Eastern Kentucky University. He and his wife live in Virginia Beach, Va.
Carla Sakson has been hired to work with schools to implement the New Look of School Milk in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties in Pennsylvania. She comes to Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association with 27 years of experience at Chartwells, a dining services management company.
Most recently Sakson organized and facilitated promotions in school cafeterias that resulted in a 42 percent increase in school lunch participation. Sakson’s creativity and dedication resulted in two regional account of the year awards from Chartwells, and in 2002 she earned the national account of the year award.
Sakson graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in clothing and textile design. She resides in Trenton, N.J.
