Croner to Lead Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program

PHILADELPHIA (July 30, 2007) – Dairy farmer Tom Croner of Berlin is the newly elected chairman of the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program (PDPP).

“Dairy promotion is an essential part of the dairy farming business,” Croner said. “With unified messaging, PDPP can effectively build demand for milk and dairy foods in the Commonwealth. The key to our long-term success is creating partnerships to boost the efficiency of our promotion dollars.”

A longtime PDPP board member, Croner and his son, T Richard, operate T. Rich Inc., a 220-cow, 700-acre farm in Somerset County. Croner serves on Dairy Farmers of America’s Mideast board of directors and is the corporate secretary/treasurer. He is a board member of Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, National Milk Producers Federation and Cooperatives Working Together.

Others serving as officers on the PDPP executive board include: Nelson Habecker of Lancaster, vice chairman; Harold Shaulis of Somerset, first vice chairman; John Ligo of Grove City, treasurer; and Norma Baughman of Townville, secretary

At the board’s July meeting, outgoing chairman Karl Kroeck of Knoxville was honored for his years of leadership on the PDPP board.

PDPP’s board of directors is comprised of 21 members who are nominated by peers within the industry and appointed by the Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture.

Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program and Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association are the local planning and management organizations funded by dairy farmer checkoff dollars. They work closely with Dairy Management Inc.™ and are responsible for increasing demand for U.S.-produced dairy products on behalf of Pennsylvania’s dairy farmers.
