Classroom Activities
Activity Tracks
Objective:
This sharing activity gives students the opportunity to explore new activities and realize the benefits of being active.
Materials Needed:
- Butcher paper
- Crayons, markers
- Scissors
- Magazines
- Photographs
- Tape, paste or glue
Method:
- Allow children to brainstorm what their favorite physical activities are, such as playing tag, riding bikes or playing a team sport.
- Have children outline their shoes on the butcher paper.
- Children then decorate one shoe with their names and the other outline with drawings, photographs of themselves, and/or magazine clippings of their favorite physical activity.
- Post the footsteps around the room in pairs (name and activity). Encourage the children to follow the footsteps to look for activities that they might enjoy themselves. Afterwards, discuss the similarities and differences they noticed among classmates and whether they discovered any new activities to try. Talk about how these activities can help them in school and at home.
