Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association Joins D.C. Public Schools to Promote Free Breakfast Program for Students
Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association has teamed up with the District of Columbia Public Schools foodservice department to sponsor an outdoor media campaign to promote the school’s free breakfast program to elementary students.
Studies show that eating breakfast helps students improve classroom performance, test scores and grades. It also has been shown to decrease disciplinary problems, tardiness and visits to the school nurse, while increasing overall attendance rates.

As part of the promotion, three different posters were placed at bus shelters throughout Washington, D.C., reminding parents and kids alike that free breakfast is available at school. Appearing in one of the posters was Jon Jansen of the Washington Redskins football team. The poster tackles school breakfast by stating: “Your kids can kick off their day the healthy way, every day, with FREE breakfast from the D.C. Public Schools.”
The posters were on display at bus shelters during August and September 2006. As part of the promotion, the elementary school with the greatest increase in school breakfast participation during the month of September will receive a visit by Jon Jansen, who will join them for breakfast.
