New Jersey Schools Receive Expanding Breakfast Awards
Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association recently recognized four New Jersey school districts for their efforts to increase student participation in school breakfast. The awards, sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, were offered in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture/Bureau of Child Nutrition Programs’ expanding breakfast classes held during the 2007-2008 school year.
School districts receiving the awards showed a 25 percent or more increase in breakfast participation from February 2008 to April 2008, compared to the same time in 2007. Other considerations for the awards included improved test scores; reduction in absenteeism, visits to the nurse’s office and tardiness; increased milk consumption; and introduction of the New Look of School Milk at breakfast. Districts used their monetary awards for equipment for the department and as a thank you to staff members for their team efforts to promote a nutritious school breakfast.
Congratulations to the following school foodservice departments for their efforts to step outside the cafeteria and encourage students to start the day with school breakfast.
