Why Milk Vending

Why Dairy Vending?

New Marketing Opportunities for Milk

In a strategic marketing effort to reclaim milk as the beverage of choice for today’s youth, packaging and flavors have undergone a major makeover. Gone are the days when you could only find milk in the school cafeteria in a gabled paperboard carton on the serving line.

Today’s youth are more sophisticated consumers and want their school milk to look like and be as convenient as the plastic bottles of milk they can purchase in the local convenience stores.

Dairy vending offers the convenience of having milk available anytime and anywhere rather than limited to only the cafeteria serving line. Milk and dairy products such as cheese and yogurt are recognized as healthy vending alternatives.

Vending Dairy is a Win-Win

School districts would like to keep the convenience, and profits, of vending, but are required to adhere to their district wellness policy guidelines for healthier snack options. Vending milk and dairy products delivers a winning product for everyone. Flavored milk in grab-n-go plastic bottles is a growing trend that youth have quickly bought into.

According to the Consensus of the Industry article in the 2008 issue of Vending Times, milk vending outperformed other vended beverages by showing increases in dollar sales, unit volume and machine location.

In schools, vended milk was the right product at the right time to replace the high sugar beverages prohibited by an increasing number of school districts. The growing public interest in the nutritional impact of away-from-home beverage choices increased the availability of attractively packaged new products from local dairies and national suppliers.

Milk producers have found dairy vending to be a valuable ally in recapturing milk as the beverage of choice for children, teens and even adults.
